Hi!

Here is a picture of me. As is traditional for my generation, it is a selfie. I had just gotten a haircut. It was a weird day in the middle of a weird summer.

As my header would have you believe, I'm some nerdy guy on the internet with a blog and opinions. Here are some additional ice breakers: I went to all 3 PAXes in 2015. I have no urge to go skydiving. I have a cat but I love dogs too. I can't stop buying Apple products. I should probably work out.

If you're a veteran of the Guild Wars community, you might have read something on my previous blog, Malefic Incantations, which I wrote for the 12-month period surrounding Guild Wars 2's launch in 2012. The friends I made in those days blossomed into I Can Outtweet A Centaur! [TWIT], my goofy guild that's still active today! Not only are we still playing together and sharing cat pictures and snark on Twitter, but many of us have met up at PAX and had random weekend meetups.

All those awesome experiences and friendships were available to me because I had put myself out there with my writing. I stopped writing for a lot of reasons, but I want to get back into it. I decided to start this new site instead of picking up the old blog because I wanted to open up the topics to more of my interests--beer, board games, other video games, software development (I do have a job I guess,) podcasts, technology, feminism... I'm sure there'll be a lot of Guild Wars talk here, but not just that.

Why opt.red?

Because I don't think about these things too hard. it sounds cool, and it's only 7 characters. Can't beat that in a world that can only handle 140 characters at a time. At a minimum, it'll have better SEO than "Malefic Incantations," which got several hits from people searching Google for pagan rituals.

But this site isn't red.

Look, if the auto industry can have cars named after colors but sell them in mostly other colors, I can have a site that is not the color of its TLD. My PR agency said it was cool.*
